Accidents happen, and so do injuries. It’s best to map out the best treatment plan in an emergency. In any case, some injuries do need physiotherapy to help them along. Which conditions can physiotherapy remedy? We’re here to answer!

After talking about ankle and foot injuries, the following article on our list concerns calf and shin injuries. As always, physiotherapy can help treat these injuries as well.

The Calf & Shin Injuries Treated by Physiotherapy

Calf Injuries

Your calf muscles are vital to implement your everyday movements. These include jumping, running, and walking. The muscles support you when you stand up, helping you move your lower legs and feet. As they do, the muscle mass in this area increases, making it a bigger target for possible damage.

If you have any of the following calf injuries, it might be good to add physiotherapy to your treatment plan:

  • Achilles rupture
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Calf Muscle Tear
  • Calf Pain
  • Calf Strain
  • Compartment Syndrome of the Lower Leg
  • Pulled Calf Muscle

Shin Injuries

The shin primarily consists of the shinbone or the tibia, the second longest bone in the body. This bone joins all the ligaments, tendons and muscles in your ankles and knees to the rest of the body. These bones are positioned in a way that makes us dependent on them.

Moreover, the continuous pressure we put on them while jumping and running can make our lower legs prone to breaking. Other shin injuries are as follows below:

  • Bone Contusion (Bone Bruise)
  • Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome or Tenoperiostitis (Shin Splints)
  • Osgood-Schlatter Disease
  • Shin Pain
  • Tibia Fracture
